Jewish Actor from “Homeland” Criticizes Israel’s “Unconscionable Actions” in Gaza

According to cinemadrame News Agency, Mandy Patinkin, the Jewish actor from the series “Homeland,” has criticized Israel’s “unconscionable actions” in Gaza. He compares the daily killing of Palestinian people to the “vocation of vengeance” of his character in the film “The Princess Bride.”

The 72-year-old actor is best known for his role as Inigo Montoya, the swordsman in “The Princess Bride,” who sees himself as charged with avenging his father’s murder. In the comedy, he repeatedly tells his enemies: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

In a new interview with The New York Times, Patinkin quotes another line from his character, saying: “I have been in the business of vengeance for so long. Now that it’s over, I don’t know what to do with the rest of my life.”

He compares his character’s vengeful mindset to Israel’s policies, telling Jewish people: “Pay attention to what this man Benjamin Netanyahu and his right-wing government have done to Jews all over the world.”

Patinkin adds: “They have jeopardized not only Israel, which is very important to me and I want it to exist, but also the Jewish population all over the world. For Jews to witness these events and to permit what is happening to children and civilians of all ages in Gaza, for whatever reason, is unconscionable and unimaginable.”

He continues: “I ask all Jews around the world, take some time in private and reflect, are these actions acceptable and tolerable? How could this have happened to you and your ancestors, and yet you turn around and do the same to others?”
